“Canadian cannabis brands blunt about trademark challenges” by Rani Mehta, Managing IP

Managing IP quotes Toronto lawyer Simon Hitchens in an article about cannabis trademark class in Canada.

Simon Hitchens, partner at Fasken in Toronto, says the fact that advertising in the industry is tightly controlled means that the brands often can’t market to the same target audience as other businesses.

Hitchens at Fasken says he has seen objections to cannabis marks from tobacco and alcohol companies. He believes this might be because these businesses want to expand into the cannabis field and want to leave the marks opens.
